ResumeElite is a free resume builder. Fifty templates, a live editor, and a PDF you can download without creating an account or entering a card number. This page explains who runs it, why it works the way it does, and how it pays for itself — because those are fair things to want to know before you type your employment history into a website.

Why this exists

Most online resume builders follow the same pattern. The editor is free and pleasant to use. You spend forty minutes filling it in. Then you click download and hit a subscription page, usually somewhere between $10 and $30 a month, sometimes with a “$2.95 trial” that renews at full price. By that point you have sunk enough effort that paying feels easier than starting again, which is precisely the intended effect.

That pattern is worst for the people it hits hardest: someone made redundant, a graduate applying to thirty schemes, anyone applying from a country where a monthly subscription in dollars is a serious amount of money.

So the rule here is simple and it is not going to change: the download is free, there is no watermark, and there is no signup. Nothing is held back for a paid tier, because there is no paid tier.

How the site pays for itself

Advertising, once you consent to it. That is the whole model.

What this means in practice, stated plainly:

  • There are no ads inside the editor. Ads sit on the guides and the template pages, never beside the buttons you are trying to click while working on your resume.
  • Nothing loads before you agree. Advertising and analytics are set to denied by default, and you can decline entirely. If you decline, every feature still works — all fifty templates, every editor control, unlimited PDF exports.
  • Your resume is never used for advertising. It cannot be: it never reaches us. Ads are contextual to the page you are reading.
  • We do not sell data. There is no data to sell.

The privacy policy and cookie policy spell out the detail, including every cookie name and how to change your mind later.

Privacy as an architecture, not a promise

Plenty of sites promise to look after your data. We took a different approach: we built the site so that we never receive it in the first place.

Your resume is stored in your own browser using the Local Storage API. Nothing is uploaded. PDF generation also runs in your browser — the document is rendered and written to a file on your own machine, so your employment history, your address and your photo never travel to a server we control.

There is a genuine trade-off in that design and we would rather name it than hide it. Because there is no account, there is no cloud backup. Clear your browser data and your draft is gone; open the site on your phone and your desktop draft is not there. We think that is the right trade for a document containing your full contact details and career history, but it is a trade, and you should know about it before you rely on it.

How the templates are built

Every template is hand-written HTML and CSS rendering at a fixed A4 width, which is why the live preview matches the exported PDF closely. There is no template marketplace and no third-party theme packs.

Two consequences that matter for job applications:

  • The PDF contains real text. Nothing is rendered as an image, so applicant tracking systems can parse it and your email, phone and portfolio links stay clickable.
  • Your content is independent of the design. Switching between all fifty templates carries every section, date and bullet across untouched. That means you can keep a plain layout for application portals and a designed one for people who open the file themselves, without maintaining two documents.

We also write the guides, and we try to keep them specific. Advice like “highlight your transferable skills” is unfalsifiable and unhelpful. Where a claim is contested — the one-page rule, the widely repeated statistic that ATS software rejects 75% of resumes — we say so rather than repeating it.

What we do not do

Being clear about the limits is part of being useful:

  • We do not review your resume. There is no human critique service, paid or free.
  • We do not apply to jobs on your behalf, and we are not a job board or a recruiter.
  • We do not guarantee interviews. A good document removes obstacles; it does not create experience you do not have. See the disclaimer.
  • We do not write your content with AI. Generated bullet points read as generated, and interviewers ask about specifics you then cannot supply.

Who runs it

ResumeElite is an independent project, not a venture-funded company, and it is built and maintained by a small team rather than a content farm. There are no investors to satisfy and therefore no pressure to add a paywall later.
